Vincent Martin Bonventre teaches, comments and advises on courts, judges, and various areas of public law. His particular focus is on the judicial process, civil rights and liberties, criminal law, state constitutional adjudication, the Supreme Court, and the New York Court of Appeals. He has authored numerous works on these subjects.
Dr. Bonventre clerked for Judges Matthew J. Jasen and Stewart F. Hancock, Jr. of the New York Court of Appeals. Between those clerkships, he was selected by Chief Justice Warren Burger to serve as a Supreme Court Judicial Fellow. Previously, he served two tours in the U.S. Army—one in military intelligence and one as trial counsel in the JAG Corps.
He joined the Albany Law School faculty in 1990. He has taught as a visitor at Syracuse University College of Law and the Maxwell School of Public Affairs. While completing his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia, he taught courses in the judicial process and civil rights and liberty. He is the founder and Editor of State Constitutional Commentary (an annual publication of the Albany Law Review devoted to adjudication in state high courts) and Director of the Center for Judicial Process.
